ANNA MAY WONG DVD Special at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival 2012


" ANNA MAY WONG ~ FROSTED YELLOW WILLOWS: Her Life, Times and Legend " (2007) narrated by Nancy Kwan DVD Special Sale Price at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival July 12-15, 2012. To celebrate the National Film Preservation Foundation grants to save 60 films, including Tod Browning’s DRIFTING (1923) with Anna May Wong, plus other Anna May Wong films and rare materials which have been located in the past year, we will be selling our AMW~FYW DVD at a discounted price after these two programs on Friday, July 13, 2012:

10:30 am after AMAZING TALES FROM THE ARCHIVES - [This screening is a Free event! No tickets will be issued. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.]

1:00 pm after LITTLE TOYS (1933) aka XIAO WANYI from China, [approximately 110 minutes] Directed by Sun Yu . Cast: Ruan Lingyu, Li Lili


Producer/Director Elaine Mae Woo will be signing the DVDs only during these time periods and they will be priced at US$ 40.00 (cash or checks will be accepted).

During the Festival, the Books Inc. in the Castro will be selling the DVDs for US$ 40.00 plus CA tax (US$ 43.50).

For those of you unable to attend the Festival or who want to purchase the DVD from the Internet, please click on the link with the form (located on the top right hand side of this BLOG - PAGES) and mail the completed form with payment to us. Postmark date must be before July 25, 2012.


This is historically, the first biographical documentary on an Asian/Asian-American actress or actor in early Hollywood films and we only made a limited-edition. [This purchase is for non-commercial, non-institutional nor re-sale use DVD. Any public use must have prior written permission approval of Woo Neiman Productions.]

We want to show our appreciation to those who admire Anna May Wong as well as the other Asian Americans who were pioneers and contributed to Hollywood's cinematic history. We want to PRESERVE and uncover their bodies-of-work and to also acknowledge them.

San Francisco Silent Film Festival 2012 - July 12th - 15th

Little Toys - (XIAO WANYI) China, 1933. Directed by Sun Yu. Cast: Ruan Lingyu, Li Lili -- The blend of romance and social commentary was a trademark of director Sun Yu’s work and he is considered one of the greatest filmmakers in Chinese history. Little Toys was voted one of the hundred best Chinese films by the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2005 and its beautiful star Ruan Lingyu is one of the great icons of Chinese cinema. She is superb as a rural traditional toymaker who moves with her daughter (Li Lili) to Shanghai after her husband dies and her son is kidnapped. Set in the late ’20s and early ’30s, Little Toys vividly captures a tumultuous time in Chinese history.
